Hopscotch

I am beginning to enjoy making paintings that are full of questions and mystery.
I feel that this painting wants to mean something....a message delivered in symbols.

I might not be able to make anything of this piece other than a picture that could have some arcane significance that even it's creator can't explain.

But this could lead to a future painting that does express an idea in symbols. I just have to understand the idea clearly and know how to express it in symbolic images.

Here we have a child who looks like a dictator playing a game. We ask, "what is the meaning of the orb, of the number 10? Why does the little girl look like Napoleon? Why is she dressed like a clown or Harlequin?
Why are red, white and blue the main colors? Is the red area blood? Is there something to know, to understand about the nature of childhood or revolution or power?

I can't say that the picture has anything to say about anything...but I know that a painting COULD have a message. It could say something about how I view the world...or some aspect of what is happening in the world.

I need to get clear about that and about how to say it in symbols

Note the degree to which triangles play a part in the design here...

The hat itself..numerous triangles on the tunic, the hills, the elbows, the line from the dark forms of the 2 hills and the hopscotch board.etc.

The hat, while it does look like the bicorn worn by the military of many nations during the Napoleonic period is also similar to the hat traditionally worn by harlequin.
